Born in Galveston and attended the University of Texas 1968-72. BFA in sculpture and drawing.
Since 1972 I have been fortunate in that I have earned my living as an artist and have exhibited my sculpture and drawings. But I have a special relationship with Texas history in that, for 15 years, I worked at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department exhibit shop. There I interpreted various aspects of the state parks and historic sites. Those years were stimulating and informative. It exposed me to many unique aspects of Texas’ vast history - geologic, historic, and natural history.
During that period I recreated dinosaur footprints, prehistoric Indians, models of Military outposts, and food at a 19th Century inn. I got to see, touch, and replicate some remarkable artifacts. I am proud to say my work is displayed in 15 state parks and historic sites, Anderson National Historic Site, Institute of Texan Cultures, Austin Nature Center, and the Bob Bullock History Museum.
Four years ago the exhibit hall at The Alamo was completely redesigned and updated. I was proud to be part of the exhibit team and made two new scale models using the most recent archeological data. The artifacts, beautifully displayed in their new cases, took on new meaning and ideas for my jewelry & gifts began.
It has been 52 years since I posed for the photo above, and I have made 2 or 3 trips since, but even to this day I still get a charge being there. The Alamo still holds the energy and though faint, the same smell that many of us remember on our early visits. The magic is still there.
